Our nursery school provides a great introduction to a group setting for young children. Our program promotes independence and allows children a safe environment to adjust to a group setting and develop socialization skills. Early academic skills such as colors, shapes, numbers and letters are also introduced through play based activities. Children will have fun learning to share and interact with others, engage in the world around them, and make new friends! Weekly swimming lessons are also included. Children must be 3 yrs. of age by November 30th and potty trained.

UPK/YPK Pre-Kindergarten program 2024-2025 (for 4-5 year olds)

The Norwich YMCA collaborates with the Norwich City School District to offer a half day UPK program. This program is free to the first 15 Norwich School District students who register, but we do ask that each child has a YMCA membership since we utilize facilities and offerings at the Y. Additional space is available for students who live outside the Norwich School District with a monthly tuition rate. Children must be 4 years of age by November 30th. PreK helps children to be prepared to enter kindergarten. This program emphasizes school readiness skills including socialization, following directions, early math and ELA concepts through engaging lessons, literature rich content and play based activities. Fine motor skills are also a focus to build early handwriting skills. Weekly swimming lessons and daily movement activities using the Kids Gym and big gym help to build gross motor skills.
